Frequently asked questions

Les Compagnons du Devoir in Normandy, a French network for training craft and construction apprentices, have integrated MOTEN sensors into their apprentices' training. Masons, carpenters, roofers and joiners measured their effort, postures and exposure to vibration, then adjusted their movements based on the data.

Training young people now to protect their health

Construction trades are among the most affected by musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which account for almost 90% of recognised occupational diseases in the sector. These conditions directly affect workers' quality of life and are one of the main causes of sick leave and redeployment.

It is therefore essential to raise awareness of good practices among young professionals during their training. With this in mind, Les Compagnons du Devoir – Normandy Region set up an innovative educational programme that includes MOTEN Technologies.

The training objectives are:

  • understanding the impact of MSDs on the careers of construction professionals;
  • identifying and adopting the right postures to limit risks;
  • experiencing, through practical exercises and MOTEN sensors, the physical demands of the trade and the best strategies to protect themselves.

An innovative set-up for engaging awareness training

Our experts worked with young apprentices from four trades: masons, carpenters, roofers and joiners. This initiative is part of the “CoLanta SST” programme, which aims to strengthen apprentices' prevention reflexes.

The training took place in three stages:

  1. Theory on MSDs: causes, consequences and prevention solutions.
  2. Practical exercises: each apprentice was equipped with MOTEN sensors to measure their effort, postures and vibration exposure in real time during specific tasks.
  3. Data analysis and feedback: the apprentices could see the impact of their postures and adjust their working techniques.

A scientific and educational approach

The MOTEN tool is based on:

  • wearable sensors that collect objective data on physical demands;
  • a detailed biomechanical analysis that demonstrates the effectiveness of good practices;
  • personalised support to adapt work organisation and reduce risks.

With this tool, apprentices work on:

  • the movements and postures that protect them, applied to each trade;
  • anticipating tasks to limit fatigue and physical wear;
  • immediate awareness of physical impacts, thanks to visual and measurable data.

Training today to protect tomorrow

By integrating MOTEN technology into their curriculum, Les Compagnons du Devoir are innovating in occupational risk prevention and preparing young people for a long and healthy career.
