Frequently asked questions
At its Fère-en-Tardenois site in France, Vossloh Switch Systems wanted to reduce the physical demands of a rail assembly workstation. Three employees wore MOTEN sensors. Four categories of critical situations were prioritised and 20 solutions were included in the action plan.
A demanding context: reducing physical strain in an industrial setting
Vossloh Switch Systems, a global player in rail fastening and switch systems, places the safety and well-being of its employees at the heart of its priorities. At its Fère-en-Tardenois site, the company identified a crucial need: reducing the physical demands of a rail assembly workstation.
Faced with the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) linked to repeated effort and awkward postures, Vossloh chose to rely on MOTEN Technologies' expertise.
An approach based on measuring and analysing physical demands
Rather than relying solely on perceptions, the MOTEN approach is based on objective data. Three volunteer employees were equipped with biomechanical sensors to measure:
- the muscular effort required during the different tasks;
- the postural constraints imposed by the organisation of the workstation;
- repetitive movements and their impact on physical fatigue.
These measurements were then correlated with on-site observations and team feedback to identify the most critical situations.
Concrete results for a targeted action plan
The analyses highlighted and prioritised four categories of problematic situations. Based on these results, 20 solutions were identified and included in an action plan approved by both the Fère-en-Tardenois site and central management:
- 15 equipment solutions: adapting equipment and improving handling tools;
- 5 organisational solutions: optimising workflows and reorganising the workstation to limit unnecessary effort.
These solutions are being implemented gradually to ensure a lasting improvement in working conditions.
Client feedback that confirms the impact of the MOTEN approach
“MOTEN's intervention was carried out with a real command of the issues and deadlines. Their rigorous methodology made it possible to structure the project efficiently and arrive at concrete solutions.” Audrey Coutant, HSE Manager
“MOTEN's expertise allowed us not only to confirm certain critical situations and find the right solutions, but also to identify other improvements we had not thought of before.” Pascal Bohler, HSE Manager, Fère-en-Tardenois site
